Just so you know, The Godfather is the OG Mafia movie, with Marlon Brando playing the iconic Don Corleone, who’s dealing with serious threats from rival families. As you’d expect, the movie is packed with violence. People get shot up close, and it’s graphic, with plenty of death scenes, including some pretty brutal ones like strangulation and car explosions. There’s also domestic abuse – a man beats his wife with a belt, and then there’s that unforgettable scene where a guy wakes up to find a bloody, decapitated horse’s head in his bed. In the opening, a man asks Don Corleone to take revenge on the guys who attacked his daughter.

You’ll hear some ethnic and racial slurs, including the “N” word, and a bit of profanity throughout. The movie portrays Italian American culture in a way that’s sympathetic but also leans into stereotypes. Characters smoke, drink wine, and there’s a bit of nudity (you see female breasts), plus a scene where you can hear but not see people having sex. Sonny and Fredo’s sexual escapades get referenced too.
